Classroom Champion

I have so much to catch up on, but I wanted to get this up!

Drew won the spelling bee in his class!!

He was so excited!
The ribbon says, Classroom Champion.

He also got a certificate to McDonalds for not missing any school in February,
got money back from the library for a missing book we ended up paying for, and without knowing any of this I took them to McDonalds for ice cream cones. Just because.
Drew said it was a "Great Day!!"

Worms, A Stupid Dog, Jellys and Other Random Things

It rained the other day. Sam & Mace were so excited to play in it.

Mason was so excited to play with the worms that he was finding.
"Hey you living creature! I love you, living creature!" Then he got grossed out when it started moving around in his hand. He threw it down and stomped on it while screaming, "Die, you living creature!!"

Poor worms. There is a massacre coming and they have no idea!!

Dawson & Taysom. I watch Dawson for a friend a few hours every week and they play so well together!

And this is the result of our stupid dog. We were in the garage and he wanted to be with us so badly that he snapped this 4X4 treated post. Great. Stupid dog. Just great.

We almost need to put up a steel fence to keep him in.

While cleaning the garage I found some jelly shoes that came from my Grandma Bingham's house. They are the perfect size for Sam and she LOVES them. Like loves loves them! They have not left her feet since!

It is sad that they probably won't last her through the summer! I wonder if they still sell these. I might need to buy her a pair!

I have a picture of Drew that looks almost identical to this one.
I need to try and find it! I swear they are duplicates of each other!

If Taysom has a ball or a broom he is one happy boy!

He wants to ride this scooter so badly!

When things get quiet I get worried.
She had just been talking! How can she just pass out like a flip of a switch?!

Rare moments of bliss!
Mason is doing great on learning to read and I love when he has "ah ha" moments!

Vaughn's 36th Birthday & District Pinewood Derby

Sunday was Vaughn's birthday! Wahoo! He turned the mature age of 36! Since his birthday was on a Sunday this year, he totally made up for it by celebrating ALL weekend long!

Friday his best friend from Boise drove down with his family and stayed the night! We were able to go to dinner with Joe and Gina and headed back early enough to watch Catching Fire.

Our kids love when they get to hang out with the Holbrooks!
Jake, Taysom, Mason, Tessie and Sam eating pizza for their dinner.

Johnny & Sam
Sam felt left out all alone in her room, so the boys asked if she could sleep with them. She was soo excited when we said yes.

Saturday we had the Pinewood Derby District race. It took forever. The communication in our ward wasn't very good, so we showed up at 9 am and it didn't even start until 10! It was just frustrating because we wanted to be out playing.

We were there for three hours!! It should not have been that long, but the announcer guy and the other guy in charge took FOR-EVER!!! There was a lot of chatter and then they would do a group of boys that took WAY too long and then take a five minute break!! A break from what??! Anyway, we told Drew if he ever makes it to district again, we are not going!
We spent another couple of hours with Joe and then they had to leave to go back home.

The boys form our ward.
Quinton, Drew & Raif

Taysom, Vaughn and Joe

Taysom was so tired!

Not long after the Holbrooks left we got a call from the Hamblin's. They asked if we wanted to go to dinner and of course we did! So we tried a new restaurant here in Jerome (Matty's Place) and came back here to have Vaughn's birthday cheesecake.

Tays really enjoyed the cheesecake!

These are his "stretchy" pants!

Oh man. He has Grandpa Linkenhoker written all over him!

Another Lefty???

I've been seeing signs that Taysom might be a lefty and when I saw him with this marker it made me so happy! If he continues to favor his left hand that will be all three of our boys that are south paws!!

Doesn't he just look fabulous with his lipstick?!

He'd make such a pretty little girl! Hahaha, jk!
He looks so proud of himself!

When this kids is happy, he is Happy!!
(Terrible twos are peeking in and I am not enjoying the new attitude from him.)

Drew was in trouble and Taysom was right there to comfort him.
It is so precious to see the relationship that is building between these two.

Sometimes for Drew's spelling homework his teacher will give him the option of doing different physical activities. Like jumping jacks or push ups. This week it was sit ups. It was going just fine and dandy until Taysom decided to get involved!

Such a stinker!

Jerome 4th Ward Winter Retreat

Since I am in the Young Women's I got to go on the winter retreat with the youth in our ward this year! Actually it is the first time the yw have been invited to go, so it was super exciting!

In the back is James, Brennen
Middle is Jacob, Shayla & Lynsey

The group that rode up to the South Hills with us.

Parker & Benny
These two crack me up!
We have such an amazing group of youth in our ward. Vaughn and I are so lucky to be able to work with them!

Maria & Lisa
(Maria was one of Sam's teachers)

The lodge was soo cold!! I wish I would have taken pictures of the outside when we got there! It had just started snowing and it was so pretty! We had to park probably 1/2 mile from the lodge so we used snowmobiles to get the gear and most the people to the lodge. It took quite a while since we only had three snowmobiles doing all the work! It was dark and cold and everyone was hungry. The kids were in surprisingly good moods for the conditions they were in! It was almost 9 pm by the time dinner was finally ready to go!

We had a few people talk after dinner.

Madi & Shayla were in charge of the devotional.
They came up with a great theme of unity and I think it was the perfect theme for this group of youth!

Our lovely breakfast chefs!

Once it started snowing it snowed almost continuously through out the night.
Oh, it was so beautiful up there!!

Vaughn had a ton of layers on, but forgot his coat. With the snow just dumping on us, he was getting soaked, so he had this idea. It worked for most of the morning. By the afternoon it was in shreds!

Some of our YW!

A couple of the ym!

Dwayne taking riders and sleds up the mountain!

Vaughn taking Lynsey up the hill!

I think mostly everyone had a great time!
There were a few girls that were ill prepared for a sledding trip and were miserable. I felt bad for them, but there wasn't a lot I could do to help them.

Most sledded, some skied and a few even snowboarded down.
It was so much fun!!

Lisa being white washed by her son!

Lisa and I FINALLY convinced Maria that she needed to go down the hill! She is afraid of heights, but she did it!! I was so proud of her! I went down once with Vaughn and then Lisa and I went down! I think our bums hit every possible bump on the way down, and I was super sore the next day, but it was worth it!

Sweet Madi helping one of the girls to try and get warm.
She is a very thoughtful, compassionate person.

The cars in the parking lot were buried!

We had lunch back at the cars in a snowmobile trailer (because the snow was relentlessly coming down!) and then everyone was soaked and tired, so we decided to pack up to go home.

Vaughn's gloves dyed his hands!!
Its a good thing it came off with some really hard scrubbing!

Once we tried to get going we noticed we had a much bigger problem! Everyone (minus the 4x4 vehicles) were stuck! The vans didn't have a high enough clearance! Once we would get one unstuck it would either get stuck again a few feet down the road or the other one would get stuck again. It took us over an hour to get the vans out. Bishop Bingham's van had some light damage done because of the deep snow, but Bishop Bingham didn't seem too concerned about it. He hooked his truck up to his van (someone else drove it up) and was trying to pull it out. I am so glad it was his van because he was being so rough with it and I know we would not have dared treat it that way!

Further up the road we repeated the whole pushing thing all over again. These young men were out there without their coats on and they were sopping wet. I felt so bad for them. But they worked hard and were able to finally get everyone unstuck and on their way home! It was quite the adventure!
